Still to be determined, but it’ll definitely be beer of some sort

Nothing yet, I’ve still got dinner in the oven.

Probably gin though. It was a long week.

Finishing off several near empty bottles of vodka and gin that were behind wine in our cabinets. Found them when doing demo for our kitchen remodeling, Stolichnaya and Gilbeys.

When I was making oil money, I was only drinking Goose because in my opinion it’s the best tasting vodka. Now that I’m not, I’ve been drinking Stoli, while it’s not as good as goose, it’s pretty good. I got some Russian Standard cause Stoli was $10 more here in my new city. I don’t like it, I’m going to stock up on Stoli next time I can get some for a decent price.

The usual at the moment: Bud Light with a side of Go Spurs Go! Hopefully we kick the tar out of the Warriors tonight but after the debacle the was OKC the other day I’m not too confident. I’m headed to the liquor store later on my wife’s orders so we’ll see what happens there.

Which liquor store? I’m a little partial to Total Wine.

I don’t drink, but I hear that Kirkland (Costco) Vodka tastes just like Goose. I also heard from the man himself, Jim Sinegal, Co-founder of Costco and former CEO, a week or two ago when he visted our school (he’s a alumna), that Kirkland Vodka is the best selling alcohol they sell.

I’ve tried it, I wasn’t that impressed. It was a couple years ago though, so I probably need to try again.

Spec’s probably. I usually buy whatever special they have with their card. They put one in an old Conn’s at 1604/Bandera so it it’s close. I do love Total Wine. I head out to the one at the Rim once a month or so.

I don’t like Spec’s. It was basically the only decent liquor store in Corpus and after visiting Total Wine, not only does Total Wine have a better prices, they also have a better selection. I also might be biased since I could get one of my favorite beers at total wine and Spec’s didn’t have it, that said, Grey Goose was $10+ more at Spec’s vs Total Wine.

There are apparently two versions, the first being made in America, and a second made in France. The latter being the one that tastes like Goose.

I thought the French version was also wheat like Goose.

Three things I’ve noticed about Specs:

1. Their regular prices kinda suck, but if you get what’s on sale it’s usually a pretty good deal

2. They really want you to buy handles. I think 1.75 mL of Jack is like $3 more than a 750 mL.

3. Beer is kind of an afterthought there. For the most part their selection is give or take the same as the bigger H-E-B Plus’s.

I’m not too picky so I’ll still grab sale things or handles there. But I do still get out to Total Wine quite a bit. There is a Total Wine by my in-laws in Phoenix that is like twice the size of the ones here in SA that is an event to go to.

I’ve had Russian Standard before and it’s one of the least liked of them I’ve had. Even some of the cheap stuff we sell is quite good compared.

Belvedere is bloody good vodka though.

1. I agree on that.

2. I also agree on that.

3. HEB plus in Corpus and SA are no where near the same. In Corpus, you have basically Budweiser and Miller products. In SA, you actually have a decent amount of choice.

Personally I don’t really like Belvedere. I’d rather have Goose and usually they’re the same price of Goose is cheaper.

I prefer Bel over Goose, but Bel is one of the most expensive in our store. Goose is a few pounds cheaper. Stoli being cheaper still and Russian about the same as Smirnoff and other cheaper vodkas.

Ballast Point Pineapple Sculpin IPA 7.0%. Expectations were very low (pineapple), but it turns out they’ve once again created a very good affordable beer. Almost as good as their Grapefruit.

Over the years I’ve tried around 12 or 15.

I still don’t think I’ve found the best for me yet.

I may have to give Grey Goose another go.

Is Ballast Point just expensive here? It’s $11.99 for a 6 pack here which isn’t affordable, but I will splurge on because they do make some good beers.

What different worlds we live in... This is the first BP available as a single can here, and at $3US/can is much easier to swallow than the $8-20 charged for a bomber of American craft beer.

Bud is $7.50US a six-pack. :-)x
